JOB SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a non-profit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
The Risk & Safety Coordinator supports the YMCA of Greater Seattle’s risk management, safety, and compliance efforts by coordinating safety programs, monitoring incident trends, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. This role plays a key part in cultivating a proactive safety culture across branches and programs, with a focus on workplace safety, aquatics, child protection, and volunteer compliance.
Candidates with experience in youth-serving environments, aquatics, or camp operations are encouraged to apply, as these backgrounds offer valuable insight into safety and risk mitigation practices.

Compensation: $33 per hour
Responsibilities
Risk & Compliance Coordination
-
Supports implementation of the Association’s risk management strategy.
-
Assists in monitoring compliance with OSHA, WISHA, YMCA-USA standards, and insurance requirements.
-
Tracks and analyzes incident reports to identify trends and recommend improvements.
-
Coordinates incident response documentation and follow-up actions.
-
Maintains accurate records of claims, investigations, and safety audits.
-
Supports updates to Risk Procedure Manuals and policy documentation.
-
Collaborates with branches to ensure safety equipment is stocked and maintained.
Aquatics & Child Safety Support
-
Assists with aquatic safety audits, drills, and certification tracking.
-
Supports implementation of the YMCA Aquatics Safety Plan.
-
Coordinates with health departments and regulatory agencies as needed.
Training, Safety Programs & Culture Development
-
Organizes safety training sessions (CPR, First Aid, AED, emergency response, driver safety).

Partners with HR to integrate safety into onboarding and staff development.

Promotes a safety-first culture through communication and coaching.

Coordinates emergency drills and preparedness activities.
Data & Reporting
-
Maintains risk management systems and databases.
-
Ensures timely and accurate data entry for incidents and compliance records.

Prepares reports for Risk & Safety Manager and committees.

Uses data to support continuous improvement of safety practices.
Volunteer Risk & Process Oversight

Supports volunteer onboarding and compliance tracking.
-
Assist Volunteer Matters Department to ensure alignment with YMCA standards.

Assists branches with volunteer screening and training processes.
Collaboration & Support
-
Works closely with Risk Director, HR, Branch Operations, and other departments.

Participates in Safety, Child Protection, and Aquatics committees.
Other

Adheres to policies related to boundaries with consumers.

Completes required abuse risk management training.

Follows procedures for managing high-risk activities.
-
Meets mandated reporting requirements.

Fulfills job-specific abuse risk management responsibilities

Qualifications
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Safety, Public Administration, Management or related field.
2–4 years of experience in safety coordination, risk management, or compliance.
Familiarity with OSHA/WISHA, aquatic safety, and child protection standards.
Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
Experience in nonprofit or youth-serving organizations preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and risk management platforms
Other applicable education, training, and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience in aquatics, camp, or youth development programs.
Legal or insurance background.
Experience with diverse populations.
Multilingual skills are a plus.
