Director of Nursing

POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Nursing works with all staff, management, and leadership to assure high quality, safe nursing practices are conducted at TGC, leading to superior health outcomes of all TGC members. The Director of Nursing directs, manages, and coordinates the patient care, personnel, administrative, business, technical and nursing operations of TGC's 16 bed adult inpatient psychiatric hospital, 7 bed 24-hour Crisis Stabilization Unit and outpatient clinics in collaboration with the Medical Director and TGC Executive leadership. The Director of Nursing oversees nursing care, including, but not limited to, day-to-day operations, service-specific policies and procedures, customer/patient satisfaction, procurement of supplies, finance/budget, human resources, planning, development, and training.
The Director of Nursing collaborates with TGC medical practitioners and other health care providers to maintain and improve TGC services. 100% ON SITE
POSITION DUTIES
- Ensures compassionate, trauma-informed high-quality care is provided for members by the nursing staff at all times, including efficient and effective staff scheduling and nursing/technician coverage on assigned units.
- Ensures adherence to Applicable Nursing Standards of Practice.
- Promotes, develops, and evaluates processes and systems for member care and initiates systems corrections.
- Drives improvement and efficiency standards applicable to areas of responsibility including but not limited to access to care, staffing/workload management, and quality metrics.
- Assists program leaders in achieving quality improvement projects developed internally or through direction of stakeholders, CMS, contracts, licensure, or The Joint Commission.
- Oversees the Infection Control program, including supervising the Infection Control/Prevention Nurse.
- Maintains an atmosphere of respect and dignity for all members and staff as evidenced by review of the results of members and staff surveys, consumer grievances, ratio of number of staff resignations versus required staff and direct observation.
- Enhances Nursing Staff department's and The Guidance Center's reputation and community value by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests, exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments and providing excellent, responsive and welcoming customer service to internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Assures high quality and safe services for members and staff by developing, revising, enforcing and adhering to policies, procedures, standards, rules, The Joint Commission requirements, and legal regulations; by participating in utilization and quality reviews; and by availability for emergency care.
- Improves staff competence by providing clinical leadership, training and discussions regarding evidence-based practices/best practices on wellness, and psychiatric and physical health care.
- Participates in new initiatives such as program enhancements, wellness programs, grants, community outreach, new delivery models, etc.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the Hospital Emergency Plan, disaster preparedness and safety response.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Provide high quality customer service to internal and external customers.
- Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
- Participate in Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Processes of the agency.
- Complete all TGC required trainings on time.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism while performing job functions.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to learn.
- This position is 100% onsite, in the state of Arizona.
- This position is categorized as essential staff.
Required:
- Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse in Arizona or a state within the state Nursing Compact licensure agreement as determined by the Arizona Board of Nursing
Minimum of five years nursing experience working in the Behavioral Health field giving skilled nursing care and therapies.
A minimum of 3 years supervisory experience directing, monitoring and evaluating the nursing care given by staff, including inpatient psychiatric facilities.
Competence in interdisciplinary formulation of individual treatment plans.
Ability to produce and interpret charts, budget, personnel files, and physical data, and able to collect information.
Ability to effectively communicate information to peers and members.
Ability to professionally interact with physicians and other health care practitioners, legal representatives, and law enforcement.
Ability to establish and follow through with plans.
Ability to supervise staff in those duties that ensure quality patient care.
Demonstrate willingness to learn.
Ability to obtain Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- At least 21 years of age or older.
- Valid AZ driver's license.
- Experience in working with culturally diverse populations.
- Experience in integrated care settings.
