Position: Food Service Assistant I
Location: Wilmington Hospital
Schedule:

  • Primary Shifts: 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM and 3:45 PM - 7:30 PM
  • Additional Shifts: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, and 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM
  • Weekends and Holidays Required
    Department: Food & Nutrition Services
What You'll Do:
  • Assemble patient meals with precision, following dietary guidelines and portion control standards
  • Support sanitation efforts including dishwashing, pot sink operations, and general kitchen cleanliness
  • Maintain infection prevention protocols and food safety standards
  • Handle food storage, labeling, and rotation to ensure freshness and compliance
  • Interact with patients, families, and staff with empathy and respect
  • Safely operate food service equipment and follow all safety and health regulations
  • Report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly
What You Bring:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Food Service Experience (preferred)
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment
  • Team-oriented mindset with a "patients come first" attitude
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, cleaning chemicals, and infectious materials
  • Use of protective gear such as gloves and appropriate clothing
  • Fast-paced environment requiring attention to detail and safety

This position has a starting rate of $17.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.34 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.34 per hour. This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
