BASIC JOB SUMMARY:

The overall purpose of this job is to provide high level network design and support for TEC's broadband network and other projects as assigned by the Director of Network Operations. This job requires advanced intellectual knowledge, concepts, practices, and procedures in and related to the telecom broadband and networking industry. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position may perform a variety of tasks. A wide degree of design knowledge, broadband concepts, creativity, and service provider network experience is expected.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by the company.
  • Design, maintain, and support routing technologies, subscriber layer transport operations and end-to-end transport connectivity within TEC's multi-state broadband network.
  • Extensive and in depth understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, Protocol hierarchy. Routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP and MPLS including the underlay/overlay design principles and implementation using VxLAN, EVPN and L2VPN/L3VPN.
  • Execute the provisioning and maintenance of IPv4 and IPv6 based devices, networks and Internet services provided to client companies and their customers.
  • Extensive and in depth understanding of broadband provider technology including but not limited to, xPON architecture, Multi-Service Access Platforms, distribution architecture and systems.
  • Practical experience of implementing networking systems such as firewalls, load balancers, CGNAT appliances and operational management systems.
  • Ability to quickly analyze and evaluate multiple networks, identify issues, and provide solutions to ensure networks are operating efficiently.
  • Design, implement and troubleshoot related access, distribution and core network infrastructure.
  • Ability to engage with other carriers and service providers
  • Comprehensive time management skills with ability to adapt and pivot between multiple projects.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design, implementation, configuration, and commissioning.
  • Communicate technical information to other technical team members but also to coworkers in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Special projects as requested by Director of Network Operations
  • Cost benefit analysis for network design and technologies used for current and future network builds
  • Provide feedback regarding technology advancements and new product opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

Job Qualifications:

Education/Experience - Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, with a minimum 7 years of specific industry experience including but not limited to: Service Provider Networks, ISP Broadband Networks and WISP Broadband Networks. Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent preferred. Will consider additional industry experience in lieu of degree.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Strong quantitative, analytical, and conceptual thinking skills and an attention to detail. Ability to provide positive, constructive verbal and written communications. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers and quickly adapt to changes in process, requirements, goals, and organizational change. Should have extensive and in depth understanding of broadband provider technology including but not limited to, xPON architecture, Multi-Service Access Platforms, distribution architecture and systems. Should be proficient in the use of a personal computer and with Microsoft operation systems and Microsoft Office suites. Should have general knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and Solaris operating systems and a strong understanding of Telecommunications operations. Prefer networking certifications, e.g., CCNP or equivalent.
