GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Administrative Fellowship Program at Tufts Medical Center provides opportunities to advanced degree graduates to accelerate their careers in healthcare operations management through experiential learning and rotations through key business functions of the Medical Center. In keeping with our academic mission, we aim to recruit and develop top talent into our learning community and to help these emerging leaders to reach their goals. Fellows will have access to individual mentorship, executive shadowing, and leadership development resources. Fellows will be asked to lead essential projects involving process improvement, data analysis, modeling and change management.

CURRICULUM:

The 13-month program at Tufts MC (July 1 -July 31) allows fellows to experience a variety of business functions across the organization both clinical and operational.

  • Department of Medicine: Primary Care, Population Health, Ambulatory Operations
  • Specialty Care: Quality of Care, Regulatory, Inpatient
  • Network Development Strategy and Business Planning
  • Fiscal Stewardship: Budgeting, Financial Management, Revenue Cycle Marketing
  • Process Improvement: Tufts Medical Center Quality Academy

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Chief of Staff

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Expert verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strongly self-motivated and good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with staff, patients, physicians, vendors and other departments within the medical center
  • Must be exceptionally organized to manage multiple priorities and diverse activities, to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Ability to anticipate objections and plan appropriate responses; ability to perform and lead effectively in stressful situations and to solve problems as they occur
  • Capable of program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Capable of long range program planning that involves complex decision making tasks
  • Dedicated team player with the willingness and desire to learn and grow within the organization
  • Proficient with standard software used in healthcare office setting (i.e. MS Word, Excel, web browser, etc.)

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of a graduate degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior relevant work experience is preferred, but not required

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of an office.
  • Employee may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Minimal exposure to hazardous waste, blood born pathogens and bodily fluids
  • Frequent contact with physicians, house staff, and emergency room and unit staff.
