Principal Financial Analyst
We are seeking a Principal Financial Analyst to provide support and expertise in our Planning and Finance Division consisting of Accounting, Financial Planning and Risk, Treasury and Finance, and Pricing and Rates. In this role, you will research and analyze complex financial information to provide leaders with tools to develop effective strategies, allocate resources, prioritize projects, and manage financial resources for our utility. You will have the opportunity to develop analyses and models based on operational, economic, and financial data to quantify the performance of our organization and business segments and to evaluate potential operational changes.
A day in the life of a Principal Financial Analyst could include:
- Supporting, leading, and managing corporate, division, and department financial initiatives and other special projects
- Researching and analyzing complex financial data to provide leaders with information to set effective business strategies and manage financial resources
- Supporting, leading, and managing the development of new or updated tools, processes, and procedures
- Supporting and assisting with the implementation of our new ERP/Accounting software
- Assisting with the deployment and implementation of all authoritative accounting guidance and pronouncements
- Assisting with daily accounting function activities, including cost and general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, and energy settlements
- Assisting with monthly quarterly, and annual accounting close and financial reporting
- Researching and interpreting technical accounting issues for management, including addressing complex internal and external inquiries and data requests
- Performing analyses on financials and accounting metrics for presentation to leadership and management
- Identifying, developing, and/or implementing improvements to accounting policy, procedures, internal control, quality control, and documentation
- The most successful candidate will have more than 8 years of relevant and progressively responsible experience in an accounting or finance capacity
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; Master's degree in Accounting is valued
- Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is valued
- Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts, and experience with quantitative data collection, analysis, research, forecasting, and budgeting
- Skill in continuous process improvement, root-cause analysis, and change management
- Ensuring compliance with FERC, GAAP/FASB/GASB, and Colorado Springs Utilities' legal, contract terms, regulatory requirements, and other standards and policies
- Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or small amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
