Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Retail Market Research Analyst to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive market research initiatives focused on Burlington Stores and the retail sector, leveraging advanced statistical analysis, modeling and data mining techniques to derive actionable insights. You will play a pivotal role in translating complex data into strategic recommendations, presenting findings directly to executive leadership to inform business decisions, optimize real estate strategies, and drive competitive advantage. The position is instrumental in ensuring the quality and viability of Real Estate investment decisions. This position requires a blend of analytical expertise, technical proficiency, and exceptional communication skills in a fast-paced environment.

A Day In The Life
  • Provide strategic insights concerning Burlington's store performance, network, trade areas, business generation and cannibalization.
  • Perform advanced data mining and analysis on large datasets from diverse sources (e.g., sales data, BURL CRM, POS systems, and external market reports) to identify patterns, correlations, and opportunities for growth.
  • Develop and apply statistical techniques, including regression analysis, cluster analysis, and predictive modeling, to forecast retail market dynamics and evaluate business performance.
  • Synthesize research findings into clear, visually compelling reports and presentations tailored for executive audiences, ensuring data-driven narratives that support strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., marketing, operations, and finance) to integrate research insights into retail strategies, such as localized product assortment and customer segmentation.
  • Mentor junior analysts on best practices in data analysis, mining methodologies, and presentation techniques.
You'll Come With
  • Bachelor's degree (Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or other quantitative discipline with strong business background) MBA or MBS preferred.
  • Experience in statistical analysis tools and software, such as R, Python (with libraries like pandas, NumPy, SciPy), SPSS, or SAS.
  • Strong proficiency in data mining techniques, including machine learning algorithms (e.g., decision trees, neural networks), SQL querying, and big data platforms (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Ability to create mathematical models used for forecasting store sales and cannibalization.
  • Ability to present complex data insights to executive stakeholders through tools like Tableau, Power BI, or advanced Excel, with a focus on storytelling and visualization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing executive-level reports and delivering presentations.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to handle ambiguity, solve complex problems, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to solve practical problems by choosing and effectively applying appropriate mathematical/statistical technique.
  • Ability to understand business concepts and financial analyses.
  • Experience with SQL, Python and/or R
  • Detail oriented, comfortable digging into code and working with imperfect data sets
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) or related software. Experience with statistical software & Power BI/Tableau is a plus.
