TWO OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Policy Director, the Assistant Consultant will analyze bills and monitor development for any issues. The Assistant Consultant will assist other Consultants and work with Republican Senators to provide information within the committee's jurisdiction.
DUTIES:
The Assistant Consultant will draft bill analyses, research issues, and communicate with office leadership. The Assistant Consultant will draft Committee and Floor analyses, negotiate legislation, present policy rationale to the Republican Senators and prepare speaking points for the senators.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Candidates must have the ability to independently manage a substantial workload under strict deadlines (requires working early mornings and occassional nights and weekends as necessary); analyze complex legislative proposals and succinctly communicate the policy implications, both orally and in writing; demonstrate initiative and creativity; provide fresh and creative ideas for capturing attention on key issues and be organized in project management.
Demonstrate excellent written, research, computer, and communication skills. Meet the demands of the position including working long hours with a diverse team as well as being able to multi-task in a busy environment and work well under pressure and deadlines.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required. At least two (2) years relevant experience is required. Legislative experience preferred. Please include verification of your degree with your completed application.
LOCATION, SALARY AND FILING DATE:
This position is located in Sacramento, CA and requires in person attendance .
The Senate's core business hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may require after hours or weekend work.
Final salary will be commensurate with experience and education. Seniority and significant experience are required to reach the higher end of the salary range.
