Underwriting Associate Intern

Are you passionate about pursuing a career in the specialty insurance industry? At Burns & Wilcox, we are excited to offer a dynamic 12-week summer internship program designed for individuals eager to enhance their business acumen, communication, and leadership skills through hands-on experience. This is a paid opportunity that allows you to connect with executive leadership and fellow interns across diverse departments while working 40 hours per week—spending four days in the office and one day remotely. As an Underwriting Associate Intern, you will gain invaluable insights into our insurance underwriting teams, which include commercial, personal, environmental, and professional lines.
Responsibilities
- Assist with underwriting and cross-selling within the department's renewal portfolio and new business submissions
- Engage in agent marketing calls to foster relationships and business growth
- Participate in the renewal process of insurance policies
- Maintain accurate records of new business and renewals using Microsoft Excel
- Evaluate the best programs or markets to meet agency clients' needs
- Communicate loss notices and policy changes to relevant stakeholders
- Collaborate with senior leadership on special projects and attend client meetings to gain insights
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited university, pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, or a related field
- Expected graduation date in December 2026 or May 2027
- Previous internship experience is preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
