Job Title: Software Engineer (Backend)

Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid 3 days/week in FiDi)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $150,000 $300,000

About the Role

We are building the infrastructure to make generative AI safer and more reliable. Our mission is to help leading companies and researchers identify and correct data and model issues before they cause downstream harm.

Our platform combines cutting-edge ML research with production-grade tooling, delivering APIs and applications that evaluate and remediate problematic outputs from large AI systems. Backed by top AI research and trusted by enterprise teams, we are defining the safety layer for AI deployment.

As a Backend Software Engineer, you will be a core contributor to our platform (TLM and Codex), working at the intersection of distributed systems, ML infrastructure, and data engineering. You will design and build backend systems that detect, evaluate, and remediate issues in generative AI outputs in real time, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness at scale.

This is a high-impact role on a small, research-driven team where you will own major backend components, collaborate closely with ML researchers, and help translate novel ideas into production infrastructure.

What You Will Do
  • Design, build, and maintain backend systems for real-time detection and remediation of generative AI issues
  • Own major backend components of our platform, from architecture through production
  • Work at the intersection of distributed systems, ML infrastructure, and data engineering
  • Collaborate closely with ML researchers and product engineers to turn research into production systems
  • Improve scalability, performance, and resilience of backend services as we grow
  • Contribute to evaluation pipelines and ensure systems deliver trustworthy results at enterprise scale
What Were Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience in backend or closely adjacent roles
  • Strong skills in distributed systems, API design, and infrastructure for scale
  • Experience building high-performance backend services in production environments
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup environment
  • Excellent collaboration skills and a hands-on, ownership-driven mindset
