Job Description Job Description We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Paralegal (Paralegal III) to join the Legal Department of a major local transportation organization. This senior-level role functions as a Team Leader , providing direction to junior paralegals while independently supporting attorneys on a broad range of complex legal matters. The Senior Paralegal plays an integral role in litigation support, trial preparation, legal research, document drafting, case management, and cross-department evidence gathering. This position requires strong judgment, advanced technical skill, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority assignments with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Coordination Lead and guide junior paralegals on legal research, drafting, case preparation, and administrative support tasks. Provide mentoring on building effective working relationships, interviewing witnesses, locating records, and filing legal documents (paper and e-filing). Litigation & Trial Support Assist attorneys through all phases of litigation, including attending trials and providing in-court support. Draft a wide variety of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, briefs, memoranda, summaries, and reports. Prepare briefs and motions in final format, including automated TOCs and TOAs. Conduct investigations related to accident or injury claims involving employees, clients, and third parties, including site photography, witness interviews, and record collection. Organize trial notebooks, exhibits, records, timelines, and other litigation materials. Research & Analysis Perform legal research using online research tools and print resources; interpret and summarize case law, statutes, and judicial decisions. Analyze records such as medical and employment files, identifying missing or inconsistent information and escalating findings as appropriate. Conduct data queries and prepare management reports using the department's case management system. Case & File Management Maintain litigation and legal files, ensuring accurate organization, storage, and disposal at case close. Generate and manage new records in the case management system; create physical and electronic case files. Assist with docketing deadlines, tracking due dates, and preparing routine closing documents. Administrative & Departmental Support Manage attorney calendars, including hearings, depositions, interviews, meetings, site visits, and filing requirements. Prepare PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, and other documentation. Perform routine administrative tasks such as copying, scanning, mail processing, and assisting with filings. Serve as a point of contact for due diligence, litigation matters, or departmental projects. Collaboration & Compliance Gather evidence and documentation from internal departments and external entities (medical providers, employers, law enforcement, etc.). Review and redact records in compliance with confidentiality, PII protections, privileged information requirements, and organizational standards. Uphold and promote a strong safety culture consistent with the Agency Safety Plan and Safety Management System. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge Detailed understanding of litigation processes in federal, state, and local courts in MD, DC, and VA. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including automated TOC/TOA. Demonstrated expertise with online legal research systems. Familiarity with supervisory principles and managing in a diverse, fast-paced environment. Working knowledge of legal software, electronic filing platforms, and case/data management systems. Skills Exceptional legal writing, grammar, and proofreading skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage large volumes of documents. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organization. Abilities Manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a dynamic environment. Exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work under pressure. Collaborate effectively with attorneys, staff, and executive leadership. Analyze data and produce accurate reports. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. At least five (5) years of paralegal experience . Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a law firm environment.
