The Child Center Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) is a coeducational program in a warm, supportive environment that serves young people ages 12-18 who have had multiple psychiatric hospital placements or have been involved with the juvenile justice system. It is the only downstate RTF in the state that is a dual NYS Office of Mental Health/Office of Children and Family Services facility. We never consider it too late to give young people the help they need, and we are pleased to partner with these two agencies to ensure the young people in our care have the skills and support they need to achieve long-term success.

Reflecting The Child Center's dedication to comprehensive care, the RTF is staffed by clinical coordinators, psychiatric providers, a pediatrician, and 24-hour nursing staff, 24-hour youth advocates. Support is individualized and tailored to the needs of the young people.

Summary

The Parent Advocate is responsible for serving as a liaison for parents and provide family support, advocacy, and connect family to supportive services.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with clients who need assistance in areas such as housing, public assistance, Medicaid, schools and the juvenile justice system.
  • Represents the agency at various councils, committees and with other agencies, according to program needs.
  • Organize and lead parent self-help and advocacy groups and coordinate efforts with other service providers and networks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • None
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • 2+ years' of experience working with emotionally disturbed adolescents
  • Ability to work in diverse social, cultural, and economic groups.
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to plan and carry out assignments.
  • Ability to prioritize, adhere to timelines and multi-task.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
