Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer
Leidos is on the lookout for a highly skilled and innovative Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to spearhead the design, maintenance, and management of advanced building mechanical systems throughout our secure facility. This position requires extensive technical knowledge, strategic foresight, and hands-on leadership in systems such as air handlers, chillers, boilers, and pumping infrastructure. This role may qualify for a sign-on incentive, potentially including additional PTO or a monetary bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive complete mechanical design from concept through implementation, ensuring robust, efficient, and compliant systems.
- Collaborate with Operations & Maintenance (O&M) teams to enhance proactive and responsive maintenance strategies.
- Work cross-discipline with electrical, systems, and architectural teams for cohesive, mission-ready designs.
- Conduct thorough analyses to confirm mechanical performance in real-world operational settings.
- Create and review technical documentation, such as engineering reports, design packages, and maintenance policies.
- Oversee construction and renovation projects, ensuring mechanical scope aligns with strategic goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Develop and refine facility standards, maintenance protocols, and site-specific operational procedures.
- Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, proposing and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Create detailed AutoCAD drawings, submittals, and specifications customized for site requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- Active Top Secret SCI security clearance with the capability to pass a polygraph examination.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 8-12 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6-10 years.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in good standing or the ability to obtain PE certification within a reasonable timeframe.
- At least 8 years of experience in designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, industrial, or government infrastructures.
- Strong understanding of building and energy codes; adept at load calculations, duct and piping layouts, and equipment sizing.
- Expertise in AutoCAD and familiarity with EMCS/FMCS systems.
- Demonstrated skill in solving complex, interdisciplinary technical challenges.
- Outstanding communication abilities; able to engage with senior leadership and stakeholders on technical strategies and implementation.
- Proven success in developing and executing commercial HVAC systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Polygraph certification
- Recognized Subject Matter Expert (SME) in mechanical systems.
- PE certification.
- Field experience in mechanical construction, systems integration, and testing.
- Expertise in project management, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $107,900.00 - $195,050.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors considered for an offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
