Senior Electrical Systems Engineer

The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer serves as the subject matter expert for all Material Handling Equipment (MHE) within the Distribution Center. Your primary mission will be to ensure high system availability, optimal performance, and minimal downtime of equipment. Utilizing preventive and predictive maintenance processes, you will efficiently troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, restoring service swiftly to support operational teams.
In this role, you will lead building automation projects and continuously improve MHE systems while engaging with Facilities, Operations, IT, Planning, and Engineering teams to enhance performance and freight flow.
As the go-to expert, you will be essential in maintaining knowledge on all electrical and mechanical/control system communications for onsite MHE systems, including conveyor systems, sortation equipment, robotics, and shuttle systems. You will leverage diagnostic tools and software to analyze data, identify trends, and propose enhancements to the building's MHE.
Furthermore, you will conduct technical interviews for technician candidates, assess their skills, and provide training and coaching to enhance team capabilities. Your focus will include developing training plans and ensuring safety procedures are adhered to, fostering a secure work environment by mitigating potential hazards.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, with expertise in inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and coaching in various scenarios. You should possess strong multitasking abilities and remain composed under pressure.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and plan work activities for the maintenance team to achieve Harbor Freight’s objectives.
- Collaborate with building Operations, Engineering, Startup Teams, IT, and Safety to optimize MHE systems and implement projects.
- Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks.
- Monitor MHE performance metrics and partner with maintenance for analysis and issue resolution.
- Act as first-level escalation support for the Facilities Team, troubleshooting both locally and remotely.
- Escalate downtime situations to vendors or corporate resources as necessary.
- Mentor and develop Maintenance Technicians, ensuring skill development within the team.
- Facilitate analyses of downtime incidents and recommend process improvements.
- Coordinate new technology installations and act as the technical SME for capital projects.
- Communicate MHE issues and project timelines with corporate leadership.
- Assist with the technical skill matrix for maintenance positions.
- Participate in conference calls and coordinate tasks with engineering teams.
- Provide weekly reliability information to the regional maintenance manager.
- Be open to travel up to 20%, with increased travel during new building launches for training tasks.
- Work flexible hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in PLC and Facilities & Maintenance.
- Proficient in electrical theory, Robotics, and MHE equipment.
- Hands-on experience with 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
- Experience with advanced automation controls, industrial robotics, and ASRS systems.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Proficient in programming software, including RSLogix5000 studio, and HMI interfaces.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $126,700 - $190,100, depending on your location, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. This position also qualifies for an annual discretionary bonus, along with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, and a 401k plan. Employees can accrue paid time off up to 200 hours a year, along with paid sick time up to 80 hours annually.
