POSITION SUMMARY:

Join our dynamic team as a Per Diem Speech-Language Therapist In this role, you'll evaluate patients and implement tailored treatments to enhance or restore their speech and language functions. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team for community education and contribute to the clinical education of students. This position may involve coverage across multiple sites.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Master's degree from an accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current license for Speech-Language Pathology in Connecticut.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic personal computer skills, including proficiency with Windows-based programs like Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Reliable transportation for travel between various work sites is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform patient evaluations following departmental standards.
  2. Adapt evaluations based on patient symptoms and medical status, setting individualized, measurable goals.
  3. Apply effective therapeutic techniques tailored to each patient's needs.
  4. Administer physical agents and manual therapeutic techniques to achieve treatment goals.
  5. Utilize strategies to optimize speech and language functioning.
  6. Guide patients and families on home exercise programs for maximum functionality.
  7. Assess when patients have achieved optimal outcomes and recommend discharge as appropriate.
  8. Document patient progress according to insurance guidelines and departmental policies.
  9. Facilitate open communication with referring physicians regarding patient care.
  10. Submit charges accurately and consistently on a daily basis.
  11. Adhere to the professional code of ethics established by ASHA and the facility.
  12. Maintain proper body mechanics and safety to prevent injuries while performing duties.
  13. Supervise at least one affiliated student each year.
  14. Attend continuing education courses to enhance treatment skills.
  15. Participate in departmental or community educational in-services, documenting participation.
