Position Description: Principal Electrical Engineer
LayerZero products employ a wide variety of electrical engineering disciplines, including power circuit design, analog signal processing and signal acquisition, high speed digital circuit design using FPGA, ASIC and mixed signal technologies, physical and solid-state electronics, DSP system design, high frequency signal propagation and transmission line design, RF circuits and systems, human interface design, applied physics and software engineering.
The Principal Electrical Engineer will be responsible for contributing to this broad range of disciplines. The ideal candidate will lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced circuit boards and embedded systems. This senior technical role focuses on cutting-edge circuit board design, embedded programming, and system integration. The ideal candidate will bring a deep theoretical understanding of electrical engineering principles coupled with practical, hands-on experience in circuit design and embedded software development. The candidate will drive innovation, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the advancement of our product technologies.
Requirements
Primary Duties:
- Lead the design and development of analog and digital circuit boards, including schematic, PCB layout, and component selection.
- Develop and implement embedded software for circuit board systems, with a focus on efficient programming of microcontrollers, FPGAs, and other embedded platforms.
- Apply cutting-edge research and development techniques to solve complex engineering challenges in circuit design and embedded systems.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, promoting best practices in both hardware and software development.
- Direct thorough testing, validation, and optimization of circuit board designs and embedded software, ensuring high reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability.
- Drive innovation by researching and incorporating the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical and software engineers to ensure seamless integration of circuit boards into final products.
- Write detailed design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Develop advanced simulations and models for circuit and system performance.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of R&D projects, including project scope, timeline, and resource allocation.
- Present research findings, technical updates, and design reviews to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with cutting-edge advancements in electrical engineering, embedded systems, and circuit board design through continuous professional development and academic research.
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in electronic product lifecycle from concept capture through end-of-life.
- A minimum of 10 years' hands-on experience in electronics design.
- Experience with GaN-based power electronics design is highly desired.
- Deep understanding of both digital and analog circuit design, power management, and thermal analysis.
- Strong research background with the ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical, real-world solutions.
- Experience with debugging, testing, and validating complex circuit boards and embedded systems.
- Proven track record of managing complex technical projects from inception to completion, including time and resource management.
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field is STRONGLY PREFERRED

Salary Description:
$115,000 to $130,000 per year
