QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing preferred, LPN degree acceptable. Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field preferred.
• Licensure: Valid Ohio RN/LPN license required.
• Skills: Demonstrated sensitivity in relating to diverse individuals, high initiative, independent judgment, strong oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year as a psychiatric nurse; 1-2 years in behavioral health utilization review preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Psychiatric Intake Nurse is responsible for facilitating clinical reviews on admission and for continued stay care. This role involves reviewing medical records for admission medical necessity, advocating for patients with insurance regarding benefits, and managing intake inquiries effectively.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1. Promptly respond to all Bluestone intake emails, faxes, and phone calls.
2. Review referrals clinically within 10 minutes of receipt.
3. Coordinate admissions with referring hospitals while maintaining the electronic medical record.
4. Conduct initial, concurrent, and retrospective patient care reviews to ensure ongoing inpatient treatment coverage.
5. Initiate and actively participate in peer reviews and expedited appeals as necessary.
6. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mental health disorders, DSM-V, ICD-10 diagnoses, and treatment processes.
7. Effectively communicate plans of care to insurance case managers and healthcare partners.
8. Collaborate with the treatment team to discuss clinical authorization and quality of care.
9. Respond consistently and timely to communications regarding utilization review.
10. Prepare and submit appeals based on independent knowledge and expertise.
11. Ensure HIPAA compliance while processing correspondence.
12. Track and manage data effectively.
13. Perform all necessary duties of the Psychiatric Nurse (RN/LPN) role as assigned by management.
