Tessera is seeking a skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Sheet Metal Worker/Welder to join our team at USAFA. We value craftsmanship, reliability, and a strong work ethic-and we're looking for someone who takes pride in their trade and thrives in a mission-driven environment. If you're an AWS Certified Welder with experience in sheet metal fabrication, structural welding, and pressure vessel repair, we invite you to bring your expertise to a team that respects your contribution and supports your growth.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Interpret blueprints, models, and specifications to plan and execute sheet metal fabrication and welding tasks
- Operate sheet-metal machinery and hand tools to cut, bend, form, and assemble components for structural, HVAC, and mechanical systems
- Perform welding using gas, brazing, and arc processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW) across a variety of applications including pipefitting, structural supports, and equipment repairs
- Weld, inspect, and maintain pressure vessels and steam systems in compliance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code standards
- Conduct thermal cutting, grinding, and finishing operations; diagnose and repair cracks, corrosion, and fatigue in pressurized systems
- Collaborate with inspectors and engineers to ensure code compliance; maintain documentation and support cross-functional maintenance tasks as needed
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in welding, sheet metal work, and industrial maintenance
- Experience with pressure vessel and steam system welding preferred
- AWS Certified Welder (CW) required
- QC7 Supplement C (Sheet Metal) preferred
- Familiarity with ASME Section IX and D1.1/D9.1 codes required
- Proficiency in basic shop math and blueprint reading
- Skilled in using inspection tools and fabrication equipment
- Knowledge of welding safety standards and pressure vessel codes
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Competency in using computers and relevant software

- May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
- Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
- Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
- A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera's insurance.
