Senior Software Engineer

The Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team at Affirm is an integral part of our engineering organization, collaborating closely with our Engineering partners to ensure they can excel in operating their applications and delivering exceptional customer experiences. The SRE team is responsible for establishing frameworks, best practices, and providing essential tooling while also offering training and consulting to our engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver data insights and visibility on application performance to both teams and leadership.
• Guide the development of Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
• Drive incident management and analysis processes.
• Oversee change management and deployment practices.
• Engage in service and architectural discussions.
• Recommend observability and alerting configurations.

We are looking for motivated software engineers to help enhance reliability and resilience practices throughout Affirm's Engineering organization. Here's what you'll do:

• Take ownership of quarterly goals for your team, guiding engineers through complex problems and ensuring a supportive environment throughout delivery.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to support the product development lifecycle, addressing technical constraints and participating in significant decision-making processes.
• Proactively identify and lead efforts to address project, process, technological, or business issues.
• Monitor operations and the availability of your team's artifacts through metrics, and actively participate in on-call efforts.
• Promote a culture of quality and ownership within your team by enhancing code review and design standards and sharing best practices.
• Develop team talent by providing constructive feedback and setting a positive example.

Who You Are:

• You have 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• You have a proven track record of creating highly available distributed systems with technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• You bring 4+ years of experience in a Site Reliability or Production Engineering role.
• You demonstrate curiosity and empathy, while having strong but flexible opinions.
• You possess experience in defining technical plans and developing features or systems with elegant, extensible designs.
• You are skilled at tackling significant modifications in large codebases and have established tools and practices for safe execution.
• You take proactive ownership of your growth and welcome feedback from your colleagues and stakeholders.
• You communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, facilitating collaboration with our global engineering team.

Equity Grade - 6

At Affirm, we prioritize a simple and transparent compensation structure based on factors like location, experience, and skills. The base pay range for this role is $150,000 to $200,000 per year.

As a remote-first company, Affirm offers flexibility to work from multiple locations, with the majority of roles being fully remote. Certain positions may require occasional presence at an assigned Affirm office, while others are primarily office-based.
