Java Systems Analyst

The Java Systems Analyst plays a critical role in analyzing business objectives, understanding system requirements, and designing technical solutions that support the Client's modernization, interoperability, and application transformation initiatives. This role focuses on understanding legacy Java EE application components, identifying opportunities for system improvement, and contributing to the migration of enterprise applications to modern, cloud-native architectures. The Analyst will collaborate with architects, developers, and business stakeholders to ensure that system enhancements meet strategic goals while preserving core business logic and maintaining system security, performance, and scalability.
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in Java/Java EE development, legacy system evaluation, technical documentation, and AI-assisted code analysis. This individual will participate across the full SDLC-analyzing existing application behavior, recommending modernization approaches, supporting requirement elicitation, and helping guide technical decision-making across development and transformation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze business objectives, operational processes, system requirements, and constraints to recommend technical solutions and process improvements.
- Conduct studies, system evaluations, and cost/benefit analyses to support modernization and transformation recommendations.
- Review user requirements, current-state workflows, and legacy application logic to identify automation opportunities and system enhancements.
- Document user needs, program functions, business rules, and technical steps required to enhance or modify application components.
- Assess system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling constraints to validate feasibility of requested changes within existing architectures.
- Analyze legacy Java EE components-including EJB, JPA, servlets, and SOAP-based services-to support architectural decision-making and modernization planning.
- Participate in platform rationalization, application portfolio review, and transformation roadmapping activities.
- Support technical walkthroughs to assess current application behavior, integration points, dependencies, and potential modernization challenges.
- Work closely with architects and business analysts to ensure that modernization efforts retain essential business logic and system interoperability.
- Assist in planning and executing migration strategies to cloud-native architectures, including microservices, containerization, and API-driven designs.
- Utilize AI-based code analysis tools to examine legacy Java EE applications, extract requirements, and identify architectural or design patterns.
- Extract and document detailed business requirements, workflows, and business rules directly from legacy source code when documentation is incomplete or unavailable.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to validate and refine requirements and ensure alignment between business objectives and technical design.
- Identify technical debt, recurring design patterns, architectural gaps, and modernization opportunities across legacy systems.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, and review sessions.
- Provide clear documentation, diagrams, and artifacts to support design decisions, modernization strategy, and implementation planning.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support application transformation and modernization initiatives.
Work Hours & Location:
Position will be 2 days remote with 3 days (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays) required to be onsite
