Runpod is at the forefront of AI and machine learning, providing top-tier cloud infrastructure for full-stack AI applications. As a rapidly expanding and well-funded remote-first organization founded in 2022, our mission is to empower innovators and enterprises to harness the full potential of AI, revolutionizing technology and transforming industries. Join us in shaping the future of AI.
We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Security Engineer to join our team full-time. This pivotal role focuses on securing our innovative GPU cloud platform, safeguarding our customers' workloads, and fostering ongoing growth as we push the boundaries of AI and machine learning infrastructure. We seek a proactive problem-solver who can uncover security vulnerabilities, design and implement effective solutions, and collaborate with our software engineering teams to innovate secure systems that drive the future of GPU cloud computing.
The ideal candidate will have a robust background in both offensive and defensive security, strong programming skills, and expertise in Linux systems and containerization. This role presents a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge GPU cloud technologies, tackle complex security challenges at scale, and significantly enhance the resilience and trust of Runpod's infrastructure and services.
Key elements of our Security Engineering strategy at Runpod include:
- Proactive Problem Solving: We not only identify security concerns but create and implement effective solutions. Our Security Engineers write code to address vulnerabilities and fortify our overall security framework, maintaining the isolation integrity of our GPU-powered cloud platform.
- Integrated Security: Security is integral to our development process. Our Security Engineers collaborate closely with software engineers to ensure security is considered throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Attacker's Mindset: We prioritize real-world security over mere compliance. Our approach is about thinking like attackers to preemptively address potential threats, especially in a multitenant GPU cloud environment.
- Continuous Improvement: We are committed to refining our security practices and tools, making data-driven decisions to enhance our defenses and response capabilities in line with the evolving AI landscape.
As a Security Engineer at Runpod, your contributions will play a vital role in safeguarding our GPU cloud platform and ensuring the security and isolation of our customer workloads. You will be at the cutting edge of implementing innovative security practices within cloud environments, collaborating with development teams to integrate security comprehensively into our processes. This position offers the chance to confront intricate security challenges in multitenant environments, develop secure and scalable systems, and advance Runpod's overall security posture.
If you are passionate about cloud security, possess an in-depth understanding of Linux and containerization, and are eager to impact the security of a rapidly growing GPU cloud platform, we want to connect with you. Join Runpod in building a more secure future for AI cloud computing
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement robust secure architectures for our multitenant GPU cloud platform that guarantee strong isolation between customer workloads.
- Conduct comprehensive security evaluations, including threat modeling, code reviews, and penetration testing of our cloud infrastructure and services.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to develop and implement security fixes and enhancements.
- Manage and execute security tools and systems (e.g., SIEM, WAF, EDR).
- Create and maintain security documentation, including policies, procedures, and technical guidelines tailored for GPU cloud security.
- Provide security training and guidance to development teams, fostering a security-first culture.
- Engage in incident response efforts and assist in post-incident assessments and improvements.
- Collaborate with the operations team to ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR).
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related area.
- 5+ years of experience in information security roles, emphasizing cloud security.
- Strong programming skills in at least one language (preferably Python, Go, or C).
- Extensive knowledge of Linux kernel internals, containerization technologies, and virtualization.
- Deep understanding of workload/network isolation techniques in multitenant cloud environments.
- Experience securing and fortifying cloud infrastructure in environments with untrusted workloads.
- Familiarity with GPU architecture and specific security considerations in GPU cloud computing.
- Strong foundation in network security, application security, and cloud-native security practices.
- Experience with security testing methodologies and tools (e.g., OWASP, Burp Suite, static/dynamic analysis tools).
- Familiarity with common cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS Controls) and their relevance to cloud environments.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, along with a creative approach to security challenges in cloud computing.
- Successful completion of a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, OSCP).
- Experience with DevSecOps practices and tools within cloud environments.
- Deep knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their security implications.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance for cloud services.
- Contributions to open-source security projects or publication of security research related to cloud or GPU computing.
- Experience with GPU programming and awareness of GPU-specific security challenges.
What You'll Receive:
- Competitive base pay ranging from $152,000 - $175,000, influenced by your specific skills and experience.
- Meaningful equity in a fast-growing AI infrastructure company, granting everyone stock options to share in our growth.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, covering 100% of employee costs and partial for dependents.
- Flexible PTO to ensure you take the time you need to recharge.
- Most roles support a remote-first environment, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workspace primarily using Slack.
- A passionate team at the cutting edge of AI infrastructure, where culture, learning, and ownership are our core values.
- $1,200 Home Office & Equipment Stipend to set you up for success from day one with the tools for your ideal workspace.
