Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Engineer to lead and support the planning, design, and delivery of BRT projects nationally. This senior-level role will be instrumental in shaping high-capacity transit corridors, enhancing regional mobility, and advancing sustainable transportation solutions.

The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in BRT systems, strong leadership capabilities, and a collaborative mindset to support AECOM's growing Transit-Rail practice.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead engineering efforts for BRT projects, including roadway design, drainage design, maintenance of traffic, station design, civil/site grading, and transit signal priority systems.

  • Serve as Project Manager and/or Technical Lead on complex BRT and multimodal transit projects.

  • Oversee multidisciplinary teams through all project phases-from conceptual design through construction.

  • Ensure compliance with FTA guidelines, local agency standards, and applicable codes.

  • Coordinate with transit agencies, municipalities, and stakeholders to ensure project success.

  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource plans.

  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence.

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, client engagement, and strategic pursuits.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng.) license required (must obtain Texas PE certification within 18 months)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with transit infrastructure design, including LRT, BRT, and commuter rail.

  • Familiarity with transit agencies and regional transportation priorities.

  • Experience in engineering project delivery, including design and construction phases.

  • Strong understanding of engineering standards, permitting, and regulatory processes.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams and delivering complex infrastructure projects.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and client relationship skills.
