We are currently searching for an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a part-time position.

To be considered for this position, applicants musthave, at minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

The ideal candidate will support the engineering team's development of construction bid documents and assist with business development activities.

What you'll be doing:

  • Perform/supervise calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs
  • Perform/supervise load ratings on bridges of various type size and complexity
  • Review calculations and design details developed by others either on behalf of Volkert or our client
  • Attend meetings with clients and other professionals and organizations
  • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client
  • Review shop drawings and other construction related submittals
  • Organize and maintain project files
  • Assist with marketing bridge and structure design work
  • Leading a team of inspectors in the field during inspections
  • Scheduling and coordinating inspections, personnel, vendors, stakeholders, maintenance of traffic
  • Operating access equipment and other equipment to perform inspections
  • Reviewing and updating bridge inspection reports
What you need to have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Master of Engineering preferred, but not required
  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) in Pennsylvania
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in bridge design
  • PennDOT experience is strongly preferred but not required
  • MicroStation experience preferred
  • Technical expertise for the layout & design of bridges and related highway structures
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and highway structures
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and other pertinent bridge design specifications
  • The successful candidate will have experience in conducting field inspections and preparing inspection reports. Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of NBIS and have advanced writing and communication skills.
  • NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges course with Refresher Training within the last 5 years
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
