Duties
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' functional abilities, including activities of daily living (ADLs), motor skills, cognition, and sensory processing.
- Develop and implement customized care plans that address specific needs related to pediatrics, geriatrics, disabilities, or post-acute recovery.
- Assist patients with ADLs such as dressing, grooming, feeding, and mobility to promote independence.
- Coordinate discharge planning by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth transitions from inpatient or outpatient settings to home or community environments.
- Provide therapy sessions in various settings including inpatient units, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, schools, home health environments, and early intervention programs.
- Engage in case management activities by monitoring progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and documenting outcomes accurately.
- Support patients with diverse conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, neurological impairments, orthopedic injuries, or chronic illnesses through targeted interventions.
- Educate patients and caregivers on therapy techniques, adaptive equipment use, and strategies to maximize functional independence.
- Collaborate with speech therapists, physiotherapists, medical staff, educators, and families to ensure holistic care delivery.
- Maintain detailed records of patient care activities in compliance with healthcare regulations and facility policies.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to occupational therapy practice.
- Proven experience assisting with ADLs and discharge planning across multiple settings including inpatient hospitals (ICU experience preferred), outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities, home health services, and schools.
- Expertise working with people with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities; familiarity with early intervention strategies is highly desirable.
- Experience providing therapy in acute care environments such as ICU units; knowledge of post-acute care processes is a plus.
- Ability to develop effective care plans tailored to individual needs for patients in geriatrics and occupational health contexts.
- Skilled in case management practices-monitoring patient progress and adjusting interventions accordingly.
- Competence working with diverse populations including pediatrics and adults with disabilities or chronic conditions.
- Excellent understanding of physiology principles related to functional movement and sensory integration.
- Familiarity with medical terminology necessary for accurate documentation and communication within healthcare teams.
- Experience collaborating with speech therapists on multidisciplinary approaches for comprehensive patient care.
- Strong organizational skills for managing patient caseloads efficiently in inpatient or outpatient settings. - Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program.
- Masters or Doctorate in occupational therapy is preferred but not required.
- Current licensure and in good standing with the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.
- Certified/registered and in good standing with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a pediatric setting.
- Familiarity with electronic data collection systems
