Structural Engineer - Bridge/Transportation | Atlanta, GA

VHB is growing its Southeastern region and is in search of a Structural Engineer. In this position you would serve in a technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail - as well as mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a "can-do" attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural modeling and design for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare construction documents, including plans, estimates and calculation packages
  • Provide technical support to other structural engineering staff
  • Provide project management support
  • Review fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong technical skills in bridge/structural design
  • Experience developing design reports, plans, and construction cost estimates
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and commitment to learning
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking
  • Effective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environment
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenBridge experience is a strong plus
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-5 years of bridge design experience required (LRFD)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering required; master's degree preferred
  • EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
  • Project experience with GDOT preferred
  • Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, GDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs
  • Strong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software
    (i.e. Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, Midas, GDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)
  • Model-based design experience is a strong plus:
    • Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads
    • AutoCADD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor
