Nurse Practitioner

Position Summary:

Seeking a Family or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner licensed to practice in Ohio, with at least one year of clinical experience in primary care or hospital medicine, to provide on-site primary care services to the male patient population within a correctional healthcare setting.

The Nurse Practitioner will deliver comprehensive medical care to patients with acute and chronic health conditions, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based practice in accordance with state and institutional standards.

This is a full-time weekday position (no evenings, weekends, or holidays). Shift start and end times offer some flexibility based on operational needs. The assignment is expected to last at least three (3) months, with the possibility of extension based on continued need and mutual agreement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage patients with chronic illnesses, providing appropriate interventions based on institutional policies and protocols.
  • Conduct routine physical examinations to assess chronic disease control, overall health status, and identify new medical conditions.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat both acute and chronic medical conditions within the scope of licensure.
  • Prescribe medications and administer treatments in accordance with Ohio Board of Nursing regulations and institutional guidelines.
  • Administer immunizations and vaccinations for communicable disease prevention.
  • Perform minor procedures and medical interventions as training and competency allow.
  • Evaluate the need for specialty consultations within or outside the facility, and review and approve or disapprove consultant recommendations.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory, radiologic, and other diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to facilitate medical reclassification processes and review non-formulary medication requests.
  • Provide both routine and emergency medical care to patients as scheduled.
  • Conduct infirmary rounds as appropriate and ensure continuity of care.
  • Document all assessments, diagnostic impressions, treatment plans, and follow-up parameters in accordance with institutional healthcare policies, protocols, and accreditation standards.
  • Cooperate with CMO oversight, accepting feedback, suggestions, and guidance as part of ongoing medical quality assurance efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Current licensure as a Family or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner in the State of Ohio.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Nurse Practitioner experience in a primary care or hospital medicine setting.
  • Board certification from an approved national certifying body (e.g., AANP, ANCC).
  • Current BLS/CPR certification for healthcare professionals.
  • DEA certification (if required for assignment).
  • Completion of required drug screening and tuberculosis (TB) testing prior to start date (documentation must be submitted at least 48 hours before assignment begins).

  • Valid Ohio Nurse Practitioner license.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification.
  • Board certification documentation.

Work Schedule and Conditions:
  • Schedule: Weekdays only; no evenings, weekends, or holidays.

  • Assignment Duration: Minimum of 3 months; may be extended based on mutual agreement and continued need.
