Role Overview
- This position is one of three Assistant Supervisors that support the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) Department of 220+staff, across 42 school sites.
- Responsible for supervising and developing staff, overseeing meal program operations, and monitoring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal guidelines across 10+ school sites.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and collaboration with stakeholders, including staff, school administration, community partners, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain consistent standards across the department.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of over 60 school-based FNS employees, encompassing managers, assistant managers, site leaders, and food service assistants, across multiple school sites.
- Holds an Associates of Arts or Associates of Science Degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Hospitality, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Has three (3) years of experience in large-scale food service operations, preferably in school nutrition, healthcare, or institutional settings.
- Supervisory or management experience overseeing multiple sites or teams.
- Holds ServSafe Certification or has the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment and keep current throughout employment.
- Has the ability to have predictable and reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Has knowledge or familiarity with business software and computer applications.
- Has the ability to interpret federal policy and implement programs that comply with regulations.
- Has the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Holds a Bachelor of Arts or Associates of Science Degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, Hospitality, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) or equivalent credential.?
- Experience managing food service programs within a K-12 school district.
- Experience with USDA program audits, meal pattern compliance, and procurement standards.
- Background in developing staff training programs and promoting a positive workplace culture.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, point-of-sale systems, and related food service management software.
Role Responsibilities
- Manages recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and is responsible for staffs ongoing management and professional development. Completes annual performance evaluations for all direct reports.
- Manage operations across multiple locations efficiently and effectively. Fifty percent of time will be spent in schools.
- Maintains strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Trains, motivates, and supports staff to achieve high standards in food quality, safety, and customer service. Assists in the continuous development of training programs for FNS staff.
- Maintains competence with menu planning, inventory control, budgeting, and compliance documentation.
- Ensures consistent implementation of standard operating procedures across assigned school sites, including adherence to the HACCP plan and Employee Handbook.
- Serves as program specialist for assigned Child Nutrition Programs.
- Collaborates with student groups and parent advisors to enhance understanding and support of child nutrition programs.
- Supports a marketing plan designed to foster a welcoming environment that appeals to students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
- Oversees the Free and Reduced-Price Meal Benefits Program, ensuring accurate processing of applications, compliance with federal and state regulations, and timely communication with families. Provides support to school staff on eligibilityprocedures, verification, and confidentiality requirements to maintain program integrity.
- Manage equipment needs and specifications within budget constraints, coordinating with the maintenance company for regular servicing and repairs. •
- Special projects as assigned by Director of Food and Nutrition Services.
