Job Description Summary:
Breakthru Beverage Group (BBG) is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director, Data and AI Governance to define and lead the execution of our enterprise data governance strategy. In this pivotal role, you will establish the frameworks, policies, and standards that position data as a trusted and strategic asset. Reporting to the VP of Data & AI, you will partner with business, technology and data leaders to embed governance into the fabric of the organization-driving stewardship, enabling AI readiness, and ensuring responsible data use.
The ideal candidate has successfully led governance programs in large, complex organizations and combines strategic vision with a roll-up-the-sleeves mindset. You can build consensus at the executive level while operationalizing governance practices across data quality, observability, metadata, lineage, security, and stewardship.
Job Description:
This role follows a hybrid work schedule, with two days in the office and three days working remotely. It may be based out of any Breakthru Beverage office location.
Job Responsibilities:
- Data Governance Strategy & Framework
- Design and operationalize a comprehensive enterprise data governance framework, including operating models, councils, domains, and decision rights aligned with business objectives.
- Partner with IT, business, and compliance leaders to embed governance into enterprise data strategies and drive organizational change through multi-tier governance bodies.
- Define and implement standards for embedding governance capabilities into the enterprise data platform, ensuring support for metadata management, lineage tracking, and data quality monitoring.
- Data Quality, Stewardship & Enablement
- Establish and scale data stewardship programs, building ownership and accountability for critical data assets.
- Lead enterprise-wide data literacy and enablement initiatives to embed a culture of responsible data use.
- Define and enforce data quality standards; implement profiling, cleansing, monitoring, and observability tools; proactively detect, resolve, and prevent issues while driving continuous improvement.
- Identify and implement process improvements for data management. Collaborate with other departments to enhance data governance tools and systems. Monitor and report on data quality metrics and KPIs.
- Data Technology, Tools & Security
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of Master Data Management (MDM), Data Catalog, and Data Quality & Observability tools, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture.
- Oversee role-based access controls (RBAC), encryption, anonymization, and audits to safeguard sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- AI Governance, Risk, & Compliance
- Establish, implement, and maintain AI governance frameworks, policies, and controls to guide responsible AI development and deployment.
- Extend governance to support AI/ML initiatives by defining policies for data ethics, explainability, and responsible model usage.
- Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks associated with AI systems, including bias, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with evolving legal and regulatory requirements for AI across various jurisdictions.
- Other duties, as assigned by the jobholder's supervisor, may also be required.
- Bachelor's degree in in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in data governance or data management within large, complex enterprises, including a minimum of 5 years leading teams.
- Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK, CDMC, DCAM), data quality management, data observability, metadata management, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with modern data governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Atlan and cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks).
- Expertise with SAP MDG, ECC, or S/4HANA, particularly in master data management and governance.
- Demonstrated ability to build executive consensus on data definitions and standards while driving adoption across diverse business units.
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams, influencing senior stakeholders, and driving organizational change.
- Experience operationalizing data privacy, security, data observability, and responsible AI practices.
- Understanding core AI/ML concepts, algorithms, common biases, and fairness metrics.
- Advanced PC skills using MS Office and other various computer programs including presentation software
- Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation, and negotiation.
- Sound judgment, analytical, and technical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Master's Degree
- Proficiency in AI-specific laws and standards like NIST
- Strong understanding of modern data architecture, engineering, and cloud-native data platforms.
- Experience in regulated industries (e.g., financial services, healthcare, consumer goods) with complex compliance requirements.
- CAIGP, CAIG&CS, CIPP or CISA certification
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to remain in a stationary position at times; communicate and operate a computer and telephone.
- Ability to develop complex, multi-project communication plans that understand IT goals, priorities, and resource constraints.
- Anticipates significant problems and efficiently resolves most with minimal input; develops creative, feasible solutions to advanced problems, effectively advocates for adoption of proposed solutions and develops process for them.
- Be decisive, a strategic planner, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, have excellent problem-solving skills, have strong business and budgeting acumen, and display calmness and composure under stress or uncertainty, inspiring the same in direct reports.
Salary and Benefit Statement:
Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data/ranges, applicant's skills, and prior relevant experience.
- Annual Salary Range: $160,000.00 - $200,000.00
- This position is eligible for health care benefits, life insurance, time off benefits and participation in the Company's 401(k) plan
