General Summary of Position
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Senior Power Plant Engineer to oversee the operations of our Boilers and Chiller Plant along with associated equipment, ensuring efficient and safe performance during your shift. This role may involve leading or assisting with regular maintenance or responding to emergency repairs on boilers, chillers, and related equipment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and oversee the Chiller Plant operations during assigned shifts, optimizing system performance for maximum efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs within the Chiller Plant, identifying and reporting more complex issues to the Foreman or Power Plant Engineer I for further action by the maintenance team.
  • Assist maintenance and repair crews with scheduled and emergency repairs on boilers, generators, chillers, and other Facilities Management equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable hospital, federal, and local standards—including OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, and Fire and Life Safety practices—within assigned areas.
  • Stay updated on the latest regulations and codes related to fire safety, plumbing, electrical systems, and plant operations, including OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, ASHRAE, ANSI, DCRA, D.C. Fire & Safety Codes, along with the hospital’s Fire and Life Safety practices.

Minimal Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED is required, or
  • Trade/vocational school graduate or equivalent with coursework in chemistry, physics, and/or mathematics, enabling the ability to read layout diagrams, blueprints, and mechanical drawings is preferred.

Experience

  • Completion of an approved apprentice training program is required.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must possess a current D.C. Third Class Operating License.
  • Must also have a current CFC License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough familiarity with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, The Joint Commission, and Fire and Life Safety practices.

This position offers a competitive hiring range of: USD $31.28 - USD $56.39 /Hr.
