JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist all students in the areas of academic achievement and social/emotional development.
- Assist and teach students how to manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills.
- Teach school counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards.
- Provide short-term counseling and small group counseling to students.
- Refer students for long-term support when appropriate.
- Collaborate with families/teachers/administrators/community for student success.
- Conduct data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges within the school.
- Must be familiar with Section 504 under IDEA and monitor the implementation of 504 plans for students on caseload.
- Participate in school and district committees and initiatives to provide system support.
- Assist with crisis management.
- Develop and follow an effective school counseling program and annual plan, consistent with the school, district, and ASCA mission and vision.
- Develop and implement a testing schedule and administration for PSAT/SAT, AP State testing, and other assessments.
- Participate in the development of the building master schedule.
- Check quarterly grades for students/monitor teacher input of grades each quarter at the submission time deadline.
- Attend district counselor meetings.
- Participate as a member of the School Problem Solving Team; be willing to lead this team as needed.
- Provide school counseling needs for assigned caseloads across 6-12 grades.
- Uphold ASCA ethical and professional standards.
- Be a team player, an excellent communicator, and be willing to work strategically with the parents of all students.
- Fulfill continuing education requirements.
- Note: Other assignments, as determined by the Dean, may include assignment to serve as the primary 504 Coordinator across 6-12, College Board Test Coordinator-related responsibilities, and/or Truancy Case Manager across 6-12.
Minimum Qualifications:
- School Counselor for grades 6-12.
- Current DE teaching license - Secondary School Counseling
- Fluency in Spanish is preferred but NOT required.
- Principal Certification is preferred but NOT required.
