Job Summary

The Health Research and Analytics (HRA) team is searching for a dedicated and skilled Operational Psychology Specialist to contribute significantly to the U.S. Special Operations Command's Preservation of the Forces and Family (POTFF) program. This program aims to enhance the mission readiness and overall well-being of Special Operations Forces (SOF) and their families through integrated human performance initiatives. As part of our dynamic team, you will have a unique chance to impact the lives of SOF personnel and their families while thriving in a mission-driven environment.

In this role, you will provide expert clinical and operational psychological services to SOF by developing and managing behavioral health initiatives at the unit level, conducting comprehensive psychological assessments, offering crisis interventions, and facilitating professional development for SOF personnel and leadership. Your contributions will encompass assessments, neuropsychological screenings, and human performance enhancements to support mission readiness in high-stakes settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert guidance and services in clinical and operational psychology to SOF personnel.
  • Develop and implement resiliency programs aimed at preventing and treating behavioral health issues, fostering service member readiness and resilience.
  • Provide consultation and training in assessment and selection of personnel, operational support, performance enhancement, and leadership development.
  • Conduct a wide range of psychological assessments and communicate findings to command personnel.
  • Manage process improvements, program validation, and relevant research initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain personnel selection records and filing systems.
  • Oversee referrals for behavioral health care and ensure effective follow-up care.
  • Educate leadership and SOF personnel about psychological health and wellness.
  • Respond to crises and provide care after serious incidents impacting unit members.
  • Act as a liaison between unit personnel and community resources to optimize psychological health.
  • Support the assessment and selection of new personnel and provide feedback on their suitability for military roles.
  • Ensure adherence to professional standards and guidelines set by organizational leaders.
  • Conduct neuropsychological screenings and analyze health trends as directed.
  • Maintain professional credentials as required by local health facilities.

Key Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an APA accredited internship or residency in psychology.
  • Minimum of two years post-doctoral experience in operational psychology within a government context.
  • Active, unrestricted psychologist license in a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Understanding of professional standards and ethics in clinical psychology.
  • Computer literacy for managing psychological assessments and reports.
  • Expertise in conducting and interpreting psychological assessments.
  • Experience managing research and process improvements in psychology programs.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health issues, including substance abuse and trauma-related conditions.
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with personnel assessment and selection processes.
  • Military or SOF experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in performance enhancement or executive coaching.
  • Training in critical incident interventions or trauma support.
  • Physical capability to meet the demands of training events in various environments.
  • Willingness to undergo Survival Evasion Resistance Escape (SERE) training.
