Join our spacecraft assembly team We are excited to invite a motivated and skilled Mechanical Assembly Technician to be a part of our innovative team in Palo Alto, CA. You will play a crucial role in the mechanical assembly, integration, and handling of spacecraft and components during various build and test phases. Collaborating closely with Mechanical Vehicle Engineers (MVEs), you will help develop and test advanced satellite systems for both commercial and government space missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical assembly and testing of communication satellites and ground support equipment.
  • Assist MVEs in crafting assembly and test processes, sequences, and specialized tooling or fixtures, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Assemble and install flight hardware, such as structural parts, RF waveguides, electronic units, coax cables, harnesses, antennas, and thermal blankets according to engineering drawings.
  • Maintain comprehensive build documentation, including ASIs, rework shop orders, logs, and task logs.
  • Perform spacecraft handling operations safely and efficiently.
  • Assemble and conduct checkout of ground support equipment (GSE).
  • Support test equipment setup and test operations as directed.
  • Safely operate cranes, man lifts, tugs, and handling equipment.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior technicians when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of relevant mechanical assembly or integration experience.
  • Willingness to accommodate shift work and occasional mandatory overtime.
  • Must be physically capable of:
  • Working on ladders up to 18 ft and platforms/man lifts up to 40 ft high.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Navigating confined spaces (e.g., spacecraft interiors, thermal vacuum, and acoustic chambers).
  • Performing tasks in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
  • Able to obtain and maintain certifications in:
  • ESD Awareness
  • Contamination Control
  • Flight Hardware Handling
  • DC Connector Mate/Demate
  • Adhesive and Thermal Compound Bonding
  • Component Torqueing
  • Adhering to all safety protocols, including PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, fall protection, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A&P Certification or equivalent aerospace/mechanical background.
  • Experience in spacecraft or aerospace assembly, integration, and testing.
