About the Role
The City of Phoenix Information Technology Services (ITS) Department is seeking a Technical Writer to support the Information Security Office (ISO). This role reports to the Cyber Strategy and Planning Manager and focuses heavily on policy planning, development, and documentation for information security programs.
You will work closely with management, engineers, and subject-matter experts to translate complex security concepts into clear, user-friendly technical documentation, including policies, standards, SOPs, reports, training content, and web materials.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and maintain technical documents: policies, standards, SOPs, and other security-related content.
Gather and analyze technical information to document new or updated product functionality.
Write and edit content for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Assist with scheduling, planning, and tracking documentation deliverables.
Ensure all content aligns with City objectives, mission, laws, and guidelines.
Identify potential user questions/situations and ensure documentation is comprehensive.
Minimum Qualifications
3–5 years of technical writing experience
1–3 years of experience in the information security field
3+ years writing IT policies, standards, and SOPs
Bachelor’s degree in CS, Math, Engineering, or related field
Equivalent experience may be considered
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of NIST, CIS, PCI DSS frameworks
5–10 years’ experience using advanced Microsoft tools
Security+ or other nationally recognized InfoSec certifications
Ideal Candidate
