What you'll do:
- Serve to support your practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, competent veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively with your peers and deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
- Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, utilizing integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given skill set.
- Perform (GA) Veterinary Assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including assistance with operating medical equipment (like lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental), monitoring sedated patients (non-anesthetic), running bloodwork and other diagnostic lab tests, and performing functions that require handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
- Perform (GA) Veterinary Assistant skills to support practice veterinarians, including basic patient care, provide routine record-keeping, and observation of patients made when cleaning and feeding, stocking, cleaning treatment and exam rooms, triage, obtain a TPR, Patient history and chief complaint, prep rooms for appointments, presenting estimates for wellness appointments, set up and prep lab samples, demonstrate knowledge of basic sanitation and disinfection techniques of animal kennels and bedding, examination rooms, hospital facilities, and surgical suites, apply dog and cat safety muzzle, start, stop, and administer IV Fluids, restrain patients in multiple positions for both patient and staff safety, ability to trim, Dremel, and document nail trims, express and document anal gland expressions, reconstitute, give and document vaccines/other DVM approved injections, properly clean, pack and sterilize surgical equipment and wash, dry and sort surgical and hospital laundry.
- Demonstrate team support and care for others' work experiences.
- Understand and follow the practice's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOC)
- Review invoices with clients and manage client
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with other team members, keeping veterinarians informed in real time on patient updates (in practice, at referral, and under home care)
- Be proficient using the PIMS and aid others on the team in their use of the technology.
- Act responsibly given the pharmacy holdings of the practice and maintain controlled substance logs.
- Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs.
- Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction.
- Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.
- Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.
- May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel.
- 1+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
- Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Sr Veterinary Assistant I.
- Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred.
- Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
- Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
- Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
- Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.
- Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift.
- Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
