Under the general supervision of the Health and Nursing Services Coordinator, the school nurse performs professional nursing services for schools supporting and facilitating the educational process.

School Nurse
3.9 hours per day // 178 days
[Promotions result in a 5% minimum increase]
GENERAL FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Health and Nursing Services Coordinator, the school nurse performs professional nursing services for schools supporting and facilitating the educational process.
REPRESENTATIVE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Evaluate and assess specific medical needs of students (may include preschool, special education, regular education or special programs students). Provide professional nursing services.
2.
Develop, implement and maintain student Health Care Plans and Special Education Health Care Plans.
3.
Re-evaluate Health Care Plans as needed and assure plans are updated on an annual basis.
4.
Provide medical training and information. Act as a resource for medical information.
5.
Supervise nurse assistants.
6.
Support community health care needs as determined by the school district and as mandated by law.
7.
Collect and analyze medical data and submit monthly and yearly reports.
8.
Attend professional development training, staff meetings, and other meetings as assigned.
9.
Assure compliance with the Utah State Nurse Practice Act and other appropriate statues and regulations.
10.
Work as a liaison between the school district and parents, health care providers, medical care agencies, etc.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
1.
Graduation from an accredited nursing college or university as a Registered Nurse.
2.
Two years of experience as a school nurse or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
3.
Knowledge of the fundamental principles and accepted practices of school nursing.
4.
Knowledge of the Utah State Nurse Practice Act and related rules and laws.
5.
Ability to perform, interpret results and instruct others in the use and safety of medical equipment and procedures.
6.
Ability to effectively communicate with medical professionals, students, parents, etc.
7.
Ability to collect and understand information, formulate conclusions and make reports or recommendations.
8.
Excellent time management, prioritization and organizational skills.
9.
The ability to understand and apply Special Education policies, procedures and provisions of Families and Advocates Partnership for Education (FAPE), Individual Education Plans (IEP) and other rules and regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Bachelors Degree in Nursing.
2.
Previous experience as a school nurse.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
1.
Current Professional Nursing License from the State of Utah
2.
Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid
3.
Valid Utah Driver's License
4.
May be required to obtain Baby Watch Early Intervention credentials.
