Job Description

  1. Works as a team member with a positive attitude when interacting with other department employees including pharmacy students and residents in addition to other hospital personnel.
  2. Displays expertise in medication therapy and exhibits the clinical and professional skills to positively interact with physicians, nurses, residents, students, and other health care practitioners.
  3. Knows and follows institutional pharmacy policies and procedures and medication policies and procedures.
  4. Knows and follows state and federal laws regarding dispensing of medications.
  5. Accurately interprets and enters medication orders in the computer for drug administration.
  6. Contacts the provider in a timely manner when there is a concern about a medication order as needed.
  7. Provides drug information, drug therapy recommendations, and education to physicians, nurses, patients, pharmacy staff, pharmacy residents and students related to assigned clinical areas.
  8. Reports adverse drug events (ADE) within assigned clinical areas.
  9. Develops department educational/monitoring tools and in-services to promote continued growth of clinical pharmacy services and up to date practice as it pertains assigned clinical areas.
  10. Develops and maintains policies and protocols as necessary related to assigned clinical areas.
  11. Participates in hospital committees related to assigned clinical areas where pharmacy involvement is needed.
  12. Reviews appropriate use of medications to include optimization of use and cost considerations.
  13. Serves as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students, including participation in research as it applies to assigned clinical areas.
  14. Contributes to the continued development of the practice of the profession of pharmacy.
  15. Completes other duties as assigned.


Additional responsibilities and expectations of the Emergency Medicine Pharmacist:
  • Participates in emergency response and resuscitation including, but not limited to, cardiac arrest, trauma, stroke, STEMI, and RSI.
  • Performs ED culture callback according to process outlined in collaborative practice agreement.
  • Assists with outpatient prescriptions as outlined in collaborative practice agreement.
Qualifications:
  • PGY1 required.
  • Ability to work independently required.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy OR eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina required. Licensure required within 3 months of hire.
