Clinical Pharmacist Specialist

- Works as a team member with a positive attitude when interacting with other department employees including pharmacy students and residents in addition to other hospital personnel.
- Displays expertise in medication therapy and exhibits the clinical and professional skills to positively interact with physicians, nurses, residents, students, and other health care practitioners.
- Knows and follows institutional pharmacy policies and procedures and medication policies and procedures.
- Knows and follows state and federal laws regarding dispensing of medications.
- Accurately interprets and enters medication orders in the computer for drug administration.
- Contacts the provider in a timely manner when there is a concern about a medication order as needed.
- Provides drug information, drug therapy recommendations, and education to physicians, nurses, patients, pharmacy staff, pharmacy residents and students related to assigned clinical areas.
- Reports adverse drug events (ADE) within assigned clinical areas.
- Develops department educational/monitoring tools and in-services to promote continued growth of clinical pharmacy services and up to date practice as it pertains assigned clinical areas.
- Develops and maintains policies and protocols as necessary related to assigned clinical areas.
- Participates in hospital committees related to assigned clinical areas where pharmacy involvement is needed.
- Reviews appropriate use of medications to include optimization of use and cost considerations.
- Serves as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students, including participation in research as it applies to assigned clinical areas.
- Contributes to the continued development of the practice of the profession of pharmacy.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Additional responsibilities and expectations of the Emergency Medicine Pharmacist:
- Participates in emergency response and resuscitation including, but not limited to, cardiac arrest, trauma, stroke, STEMI, and RSI.
- Performs ED culture callback according to process outlined in collaborative practice agreement.
- Assists with outpatient prescriptions as outlined in collaborative practice agreement.
- PGY1 required.
- Ability to work independently required.
- Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy OR eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of South Carolina required. Licensure required within 3 months of hire.
