Position Summary:

The Director of Special Events and Projects is a senior-level leader responsible for driving the strategy, development, and execution of large-scale events and high-impact projects that elevate the Orioles brand, enhance fan experiences, support revenue goals, and strengthen community and corporate relationships. This role oversees all non-game day special events at the ballpark and leads strategic initiatives aligned with the club's business, marketing, and community objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational/Event Execution
  • Oversee communication with clients, vendors, and internal departments post booking through event completion.
  • Coordinate internal teams (Ballpark Operations, Ticket Sales, Premium Sales, Security, Guest Experience, Catering) to ensure seamless event execution.
  • Oversee facility readiness, including event setup, load-in/load-out, and ballpark protection during private and major events.
  • Create post-event debriefs and after-action reporting for all non-baseball events.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including permits and risk management.
  • Track operational expenses and budgets, ensuring events meet profitability targets.
  • Conduct post-event evaluations, gather client feedback, and implement process improvements.
  • Support special projects as assigned, which may include coordinating office FFE (furniture, fixtures, and equipment), parking and transportation studies, or other cross-functional initiatives requiring logistical and operational planning. Projects will vary in scope and Provide opportunities to apply and expand coordination expertise across departments and stakeholders.
  • Maintain data-driven operational processes and ensure cross-department alignment prior to proposals.
  • Serve as primary on-site contact during events to resolve operational/logistical issues in real-time.
  • Lead the planning, and execution of all special events at the ballpark and warehouse, including concerts, fan festivals, hospitality activations, and MLB initiatives (e.g., All-Star Week, post-season).
  • Oversee the execution of team ceremonies, legacy events, press conferences, town halls, and branded experiences.
Budget & Operations Oversight
  • Oversee various event and project budgets, including forecasting, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including permits and risk management.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale events, live experiences, or sports/entertainment operations, with 7+ years in a director/leadership role.
  • Proven track record managing complex, high-profile events in a sports, entertainment, or venue setting.

The anticipated salary for this role is $75,000 - $95,000 annually depending on experience.
