The Buyer will be a key player in the Supply Chain department, working both independently and as part of cross-functional teams to manage procurement, manufacturing, new product development, and quality assurance processes. This role is responsible for purchasing materials, supplies, and equipment, and involves negotiating with suppliers, evaluating item selections, and overseeing inventory. The Buyer will drive efforts to improve performance metrics related to production efficiency, quality, and on-time customer deliveries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels using replenishment techniques and optimize stocking based on historical data and customer demand.
- Supplier Negotiations: Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to ensure competitive, cost-effective purchases.
- Scrap Reduction: Collaborate with suppliers to minimize scrap and waste in the supply chain process.
- Performance Improvement: Work to improve manufacturing performance by identifying opportunities to enhance production efficiency and quality.
- On-Time Deliveries: Ensure timely delivery of materials to meet customer demand and support production schedules.
- Lead Time Reduction: Drive initiatives to reduce lead times with key suppliers.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Actively engage in team discussions with Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing and Sales to support process improvements.
- Supplier Assessments: Travel to supplier facilities to assess their processes and capabilities.
- Corrective Actions: Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Purchasing to implement corrective actions using the Corrective Action Process.
- Supplier Development: Assist the Purchasing Manager in supplier development programs to strengthen vendor relationships and performance.
- BOM Structure Understanding: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Bill of Materials (BOM) structure and how it impacts various functions across the organization, including marketing, sales, purchasing, and production control.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Skills: Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems is a plus. Knowledge of lean principles such as Kanban, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), 5S, and Kaizen is beneficial.
- Experience: Practical experience in purchasing, supply chain management, or a related field.
- Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use hands for handling objects or controls. Must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus.
- Work Environment: The typical noise level is light to moderate. Travel is less than 5%.
- Other Requirements: Must pass background checks, physical exams, and drug/alcohol screenings. Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
