Northwest AEA is looking for a candidate with an associates degree in accounting or commensurate experience working in a business office setting.

About the Agency

Northwest AEA provides special education and school improvement services to 34 public school districts and 32 accredited, non-public schools. The agency serves 45,000 students and more than 5000 educators in a 10-county area of Northwest Iowa (Lyon, Osceola, Sioux, O'Brien, Plymouth, Cherokee, Woodbury, Ida, Monona, and Crawford).

Our headquarters is located at 5800 Discovery Blvd., near the Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, with regional offices in Cherokee, Denison, Le Mars, Onawa, and Sioux Center.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and experience working in a business office environment.
  • Proven abilities in problem solving, customer service, planning/organization, quality control, timeliness, adaptability, dependability, confidentiality, and security of information.
Job Purpose: To achieve productivity and accuracy related to daily responsibilities related to accounts payable, maintain the general ledger and perform other accounting duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of accounts payable.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships, including adding vendors and answering all vendor inquiries.
  • Complete all agency-wide invoices.
  • Prepare bills and claim documentation for monthly board meetings.
  • Work directly with administration and other applicable staff members to complete all agency-wide purchase order requests.
  • Maintain all aspects of the fixed asset inventory system, including year-end reporting.
  • Prepare cash receipts for bank deposits and post to the accounting system.
  • Prepare journal entries and post in general ledger for agency & enterprise funds.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Retrieve and compile information to assist the various auditors.
  • Assist in work related to fiscal year-end close.
  • Provide backup support for all on-line ordering and purchases.
  • Assist the business manager as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
