As an Entry-Level Software Testing Engineer, you will be integral to ensuring the quality and reliability of our software systems, focusing on system-level capabilities. You will collaborate with systems engineers and developers to identify and create test cases and scenarios, driving feature file development.

In this exciting role, you will engage in manual software test development and execution within an Agile framework, using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery practices. Your contributions will support the creation, design, and implementation of software tests to ensure readiness for US Air Force customers worldwide.

This position allows for remote work, but we encourage candidates willing to occasionally visit our office addresses in Newport News, VA; Lexington, MA; Orlando, FL; Charlottesville, VA; Omaha, NE; or Morgantown, WV.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute software testing
    • Collaborate on comprehensive test plans for functional and component-level testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
    • Perform manual testing on the Product and its components to validate readiness and detect potential regressions.
    • Track findings to resolution, including retesting when necessary.
  • Support early test identification and development
    • Work alongside systems engineers and developers early in development to clarify and define system requirements and specifications.
    • Help ensure system requirements are clear and verifiable.
    • Translate system requirements into detailed test cases, and develop feature files to facilitate test automation.
  • Participate in system-level test design and execution
    • Create tests confirming the overall system meets specified requirements.
    • Conduct test events to validate the integration and interaction of system components.
    • Collaborate with developers to identify and resolve issues.
  • Work effectively as part of a remote team
    • Engage in team meetings and communicate clearly and concisely.
    • Collaborate regularly with other project members.
    • Use tools like Microsoft Teams and Slack for effective communication.
  • Support automation and tooling for manual tests
    • Assist in developing and maintaining automated test scripts using frameworks like JUnit, Jest, Cucumber, or similar.
    • Explore the use of Grafana within the testing context.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance with US citizenship, and the ability to maintain clearance during employment.
  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 1+ year of experience. Additional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby).
  • Basic understanding of software testing principles and methodologies.
  • Experience in writing basic test cases and documenting defects.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a remote setting.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to seek assistance when needed.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplined engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Jest, Cucumber).
  • Proficiency in feature file development (using Gherkin).
  • Experience with specific testing tools (e.g., Bruno, Selenium, JMeter).
  • Background in Agile development environment.
  • Experience in performance testing and security testing.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in database testing.
  • Familiarity with Bitbucket/GitLab, Jenkins, IntelliJ, Jira, and Confluence.

Salary Range: $57,850.00 - $104,575.00. This pay range is a general guideline and factors include responsibilities, education, experience, and market data.
