As a Behavior Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in the implementation of a school-wide positive behavior support program designed for Grades K-12. Your priority will be proactive strategies for managing challenging behaviors, along with responding to crisis situations quickly and effectively using CPI strategies and documented interventions in behavioral plans where applicable.
Responsibilities Include:
- Implementing targeted interventions for enhancing academic, social-emotional, and behavioral outcomes for students.
- Reinforcing positive behaviors and skillfully redirecting negative behaviors while modeling effective strategies for staff.
- Keeping detailed records of student behavior strategies and intervention plans.
- Collecting and analyzing behavioral data to monitor progress and support instructional practices collaboratively.
- Providing guidance and support to classroom staff in behavior management.
- Applying principles of applied behavior analysis to improve student outcomes.
- Conducting behavioral observations to develop functional behavior assessments and individualized behavior plans.
- Supporting teachers with instructional activities and classroom management.
- Responding to crises with de-escalation techniques and prioritizing student safety.
- Documenting behavioral incidents with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Adhering to safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participating in team meetings and professional development to enhance skills.
- Assisting in student supervision during various school activities.
- Traveling among site locations for direct classroom support as needed.
- Performing additional duties to enhance program excellence.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent with basic skills test completion.
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field preferred.
- Current or pursuing a registered behavior technician (RBT) credential preferred.
- Valid state driver's license required.
- Ability to obtain crisis management certification.
- Prior experience working with children, particularly in special education or behavioral health settings.
- Experience with individuals with severe learning disabilities and behavioral disorders.
- Knowledge of positive behavior intervention, functional behavior analysis, and behavior intervention plans preferred.
- Ability to remain calm and make independent decisions in emergencies.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with technology including Microsoft Office and data management systems.
