About the Role:

• Drive Innovation: Thrive in a fast-paced, startup-like atmosphere as part of the CoCounsel for Accounting team, brought together through the acquisition of Materia.
• Develop AI Systems: Collaborate with a talented group to create intelligent software specifically designed for accounting professionals, utilizing the latest technologies.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with AI/ML engineers, frontend developers, product managers, and designers to build robust services that deliver seamless AI experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain backend services using technologies like Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL.
• Implement AI orchestration systems integrating large language models from providers such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
• Design APIs and backend logic for real-time AI interactions.
• Assist in creating our core AI platform to automate a variety of tasks across the accounting sector.

Focus on Performance & Scalability:

• Ensure that backend systems are secure, scalable, and optimized specifically for AI-driven applications.
• Monitor and enhance system performance to handle millions of documents and AI interactions effectively.

Collaboration & Leadership:

• Work side-by-side with AI researchers and engineers to translate AI capabilities into impactful applications.
• Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement, exploring novel AI technologies and methodologies.

About You: This role is a perfect fit if you have:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, along with 4+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong Python skills, with experience in FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Solid understanding of API and data model design.
• Excellent debugging skills and a history of delivering production-grade software.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
• A genuine interest in AI-driven software and emerging engineering paradigms.
• A creative approach to problem-solving and a willingness to explore new technologies.
• A commitment to building high-quality, reliable AI-first systems.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Experience with AI systems, agent-based architectures, or APIs from providers like OpenAI and Anthropic.
• Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, or search-based AI technologies.
• Strong opinions and strategies for backend testing and automation.
