Job Description
The Senior Gift Officer, Foundation Giving is responsible for soliciting private foundation support on behalf of Lurie Children's. This individual will develop and advance existing foundation relationships and seek new sources through the identification and cultivation of prospects, including in collaboration with Medical Center staff. The Senior Gift Officer will raise funds for a broad range of hospital needs, including research initiatives, staff and services complementing clinical care, and community programs. This individual will manage a portfolio of private foundations whose capacity is at least $25,000 annually, developing relationships and executing strategies that together will generate approximately $2 million annually in support of the hospital's annual fundraising goals and longer-term campaign aspirations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Manage a portfolio of 60-80 foundations and support all aspects of the giving cycle for qualified prospects, including cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, in order to close five, six and seven-figure gifts that reflect the Medical Center's needs and the Foundation's priorities
- Identify and qualify new prospects for all levels of the donor pipeline, including in partnership with the Prospect Development team, with the goal of growing a portfolio and obtaining new private foundation support for the Medical Center
- Develop and write proposals, grant applications, and stewardship reports, including in coordination with the Communications team
- Develop foundation relationships through site visits and other regular communication and represent Lurie Children's to the foundation community at local events
- Serve as the Foundation Relations team's liaison to one or more Medical Center divisions
- Track and manage information and strategies pertaining to the private foundation portfolio, including timely and accurate documentation of and action on interactions with donors, physicians, and Medical Center leaders
- Forge and maintain strong relationships with donors, administrators, physicians, program directors, and other staff
- Serve as Foundation Relations team point person to either the Office of Sponsored Programs, Finance, or Legal to ensure the grant management process follows hospital policies and that grants are stewarded and accounted for appropriately as required by the grantors
- Assist the Director, Foundation Relations with refining team processes, workflows, and strategies to grow this area of philanthropy
REQUIRED
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Five to ten years of development experience, preferably with foundation and/or corporate relations and within a hospital or higher education setting
- A proven track record of successful gift solicitation with evidence of substantial fundraising accomplishments
- A strong command of the English language and the ability to compose, edit, and proof written narratives and to communicate effectively verbally
- Ability to represent Lurie Children's confidently and professionally at site visits, fundraising events, and other events attended by private foundation staff, some of which are held during evenings and weekends
- Be an excellent collaborator who places high priority on serving internal and external contacts in a courteous and timely way
- Ability to serve as a strong and effective advocate for prospective donors while considering hospital needs
- Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects under demanding deadlines with a high level of initiative and energy
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as creativity and resourcefulness
- Capacity to use word processing and spreadsheet software fluently, competence with creating budgets and expense reports preferred
- Experience with Raiser's Edge or other fundraising databases his helpful

Pay Range
$83,200.00-$137,280.00 Salary
At Lurie Children's, we are committed to competitive and fair compensation aligned with market rates and internal equity, reflecting individual contributions, experience, and expertise. The pay range for this job indicates minimum and maximum targets for the position. Ranges are regularly reviewed to stay aligned with market conditions.
