Job Purpose:
The Civil/Foundation Estimator position reports directly to the VP of Sales. Primary responsibilities include creating, compiling, and submitting project bid packages and establishing rapport and open communication with subcontractors, potential clients, and design consultants. Additionally, the estimator will work with the internal engineering team to produce bid designs and relay any questions between internal engineering and the clients engineer.
Description of Essential Duties:
- Estimate civil/foundation packages for storage tank projects.
- Review plans, specifications, special conditions, prevailing wages, geotechnical reports, and other contract documents.
- Complete clear and detailed take-off and/or notes for Project Managers and Engineering department.
- Obtain at least two quotes/proposals for materials.
- Obtain at least two quotes/proposals for subcontracted items. Prepare RFQ's for subcontractors' scope of work. Review all proposals thoroughly to ensure complete scope of work is included (no exclusions). Provide line-item pricing in take-off for all subcontracted items.
- Review specifications to determine if company is responsible for testing and delineate the cost in the estimate inclusive of geotechnical testing and concrete testing.
- Participate in Kick-off meetings with assigned PM and Engineer. Transfer all information to PM and Engineer. Be prepared to answer questions to provide input as requested by the PM or Engineer.
- Communicate with Operations Manager - Civil Site/Concrete in Foundation. Discuss availability and capacity of internal foundation crew. Align capability of internal foundation crew with scope of work and solicit subcontractors for remaining items.
- Review Job Cost Reports for all projects. Participate in monthly Field Ops Open Jobs Review Meeting. Identify areas of cost variances and adjust estimating process based on lessons learned from project reviews.
- Travel up to 10%, may be required.

- One to Five years of experience in estimating/preconstruction in heavy construction OR engineering (focus of civil/structural preferred).
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or similar discipline is preferred.
- Experience in construction observations is preferred.
- Sound knowledge of estimating practices, including knowledge of civil engineering construction techniques.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail, proactive, forward thinking with the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and work to deadlines.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills will be expected.
- Ability to read a geotechnical report is preferred.

Sedentary position requiring extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Talking, hearing, and repetitive motions are required. Constantly and repeatedly use keyboard/mouse.
