Job Summary:
The Work Adjustment Student - Retail Associate participates in hands-on work training activities within a Goodwill Tulsa retail store under the supervision of a Work Adjustment Instructor. This position provides seasonal and part-time employment designed to build foundational work skills, promote independence, and encourage good work habits. Duties include assisting with sorting, stocking, customer service, and basic store operations while adhering to safety and workplace procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in on-the-job training as directed by the Work Adjustment Instructor.
- Assist in sorting, tagging, and organizing donated merchandise for display.
- Stock sales floor areas with clothing, household items, and other goods.
- Ensure merchandise displays are clean, neat, and attractively arranged.
- Greet customers courteously and offer assistance as appropriate.
- Operate under staff supervision to maintain a positive and productive work area.
- Participate in skill development activities such as punctuality, teamwork, and communication.
- Practice safe lifting, carrying, and handling procedures at all times.
- Maintain store cleanliness by sweeping, dusting, or other light housekeeping as needed.
- Follow instructions and feedback provided by store and vocational staff.
- Demonstrate progress toward individual work goals established in the Work Adjustment Plan.
- Attend all scheduled shifts, training sessions, and required meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Work Adjustment Instructor or Store Manager.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Enrollment in a Work Adjustment Training Program required.
• High school diploma or GED not required but may be preferred.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Activities: Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, and light lifting.
Lifting/Carrying: Light to medium work - lifting up to 25 lbs. occasionally, with frequent lifting of lighter items.
Environment: Retail store setting with exposure to varying temperatures and frequent public interaction.
Work Schedule
• Seasonal and part-time; hours may vary based on training and store needs.
• Work performed primarily during regular store operating hours.
Program Supervision
This position is supervised by the Work Adjustment Instructor, who provides direct training, feedback, and performance evaluations in coordination with the Vocational Services Department.
