Job Overview:
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and replacing machine components to ensure continuous, efficient production operations. This role supports equipment reliability, safety compliance, and quality standards while fostering teamwork and knowledge sharing within the maintenance department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure workplace safety by verifying that all electrical and mechanical guards and safety devices are functional and properly installed.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair manufacturing equipment, including plastic blow molding machines and related ancillary systems.
- Perform machine processing adjustments to maintain optimal efficiency and product quality.
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
- Utilize a variety of tools, including hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical/electronic testing devices.
- Interpret and apply electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and blueprints to resolve complex technical issues.
- Support quality assurance by completing required inspections and testing procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet production and maintenance goals.
- Mentor and assist in the development of apprentices, sharing mechanical knowledge and best practices.
- Engage fully in the CMMS asset reliability program and contribute to its ongoing improvement.
- Participate actively in Scepter's Safety Programs and report all near misses and first aid incidents.
- Maintain and promote 6S principles throughout the facility.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and problem-solving for complex equipment issues.
- Skilled in operating and understanding all machinery and equipment within the facility.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with safety protocols, including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Ability to mentor and transfer technical knowledge to others.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Must own a complete set of hand tools and a toolbox suitable for the work environment.
- Certification on all Powered Industrial Equipment (PIE) and Lock Out/Tag Out will be required upon hire.
Physical Requirements
Frequent exposure to manufacturing operations requires the proper use of all necessary safety equipment. Standing, walking, stooping, and bending are frequent and required. Employees must tolerate repetitive motions for extended periods of time and be able to lift up to fifty pounds. The ability to stand for at least eight hours on a concrete surface is essential. Additionally, the position requires working in extreme temperatures as dictated by the facility environment.
