Overview
A full-service mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical / Plumbing Project Manager to oversee commercial and industrial Plumbing, HVAC, Piping, and Sheet Metal projects. This role reports directly to the Director of Projects and requires strong experience in construction project management, blueprint reading, and specification-driven decision-making.
The ideal candidate has hands-on expertise managing mechanical and plumbing systems in construction projects and can seamlessly interpret drawings, specifications, and material requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage all assigned plumbing, piping, HVAC, and sheet metal projects from start to finish.
- Set up projects in management software, including developing Schedules of Values (SOVs) .
- Review awarded contracts to verify alignment with estimated scope, financials, and project details.
- Create and maintain project-specific information books and documentation.
- Read and interpret mechanical, HVAC, plumbing plans, construction drawings, and specifications .
- Collect, review, and distribute material submittals based on project specifications.
- Order materials in accordance with project requirements-guided by specification-driven selections.
- Procure vendors and subcontractors; ensure accurate and timely coordination.
- Attend and participate in weekly project progress meetings.
- Coordinate schedules with subcontractors and internal teams.
- Communicate effectively with clients, construction managers, field staff, and other stakeholders.
- Support Superintendents with adherence to safety protocols on all mechanical and plumbing projects.
- Supervise activities of internal staff and subcontractors.
- Oversee logistics, labor coordination, and construction execution requirements.
- Prepare, manage, and track change orders with accuracy and timeliness.
- Oversee multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining budget and schedule performance.
- Develop mechanical and plumbing project opportunities with existing and prospective customers.
- Support efforts to secure future project awards.
- Minimum 5 years of project management experience in mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, or sheet metal construction.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications -critical due to specification-driven material and submittal requirements.
- Clear understanding of construction methods , mechanical systems, and materials.
- Proficiency in communication with clients, contractors, field personnel, and internal teams.
- Prior experience as a Project Manager in mechanical or plumbing construction is required.
- Construction Management Certification is a plus, but not required.
