The HR Volunteer will support the Executive Director in developing and maintaining SHSDV’s volunteer onboarding, personnel systems, and organizational policies. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting a mission-driven team and ensuring that staff, volunteers, and interns feel valued, welcomed, and set up for success.
You will play a key role in helping SHSDV maintain a professional, trauma-informed, and supportive internal culture.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist with screening volunteer applications
- Schedule introductory interviews
- Prepare onboarding documents and welcome packets
- Maintain volunteer orientation materials
- Support background check and verification processes
HR Systems & Documentation
- Help maintain personnel files
- Assist in drafting volunteer agreements and role descriptions
- Track service hours, participation, and evaluations
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitive information with professionalism
People Operations
- Support communication with volunteers regarding updates, meetings, policies, and expectations
- Help develop organizational culture guidelines (trauma-informed, survivor-centered practices)
- Assist in creating internal protocols for conflict resolution and conduct
- Help coordinate trainings and development opportunities
Policies & Compliance
- Assist with drafting or updating HR policies, manuals, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit volunteer standards
- Help monitor safety protocols and coordination with the Safety Team Director
Qualifications
- Experience or interest in HR, social services, nonprofit work, or administration
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Compassionate, trauma-informed approach
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Reliable and able to meet deadlines
- Comfortable working independently and remotely
- Passion for supporting survivors and families
