Position Overview:

Join our dedicated Maintenance and Operations team as an Expert HVAC Technician. In this role, you will perform a variety of advanced tasks related to Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, as well as refrigeration equipment including coolers and freezers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of HVAC and refrigeration systems, including equipment and fixtures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
  • Knowledgeable about Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, completing tasks with minimal direction.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for calculations.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and maintain HVAC systems effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the capacity to engage with various audiences.
  • Strong capability to foster positive relationships with staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in HVAC and refrigeration installation and repair.

Certification and License Requirements:

  • Type I, II, and III chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license in accordance with North Carolina requirements.
  • Completion of OSHA safety training within the first twelve months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid HVAC and Refrigeration License as recognized by the North Carolina Board of HVAC Examiners.
  • Associate’s Degree or technical school training focused on HVAC Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct advanced troubleshooting and repairs on HVAC systems, materials, equipment, and fixtures.
  2. Respond promptly to work orders related to HVAC; diagnose issues and implement effective solutions.
  3. Replace or repair defective HVAC equipment and systems when necessary.
  4. Keep thorough records and maintain work logs and reports as required.
  5. Comply with safety laws and regulations as per WCPSS Safety procedures/policies.
  6. Ensure adherence to safety practices and maintain a secure working environment.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Work Environment:

This position includes both indoor and outdoor environments, requiring the use of standard office equipment such as computers and hand/power tools. You may interact often with school system staff, contractors, vendors, and external agencies. This is a physically demanding role that may require lifting up to seventy-five pounds. Expect exposure to hazardous materials, gases, and inclement weather during work.
