Eagle County Government's Public Health Department is seeking an experienced and motivated Community Health Educator to join our team. This is a single position with the flexibility to hire at either the Community Health Educator or Lead level, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
Schedule: This is a 30-hour per week position. Core business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm; however, there is flexibility in how those 30 hours are scheduled. Specific shifts and potential condensed schedules (such as 4-day work weeks) will be coordinated with the team based on departmental needs.

Full job description for Lead Community Health Educator
Core Responsibilities (Both Roles):
- Provides Quality Programs and Services (40%): You are the primary point of contact for the WIC program. You'll handle outreach, determine eligibility, and conduct health/diet assessments. You'll create individualized nutrition plans and provide breastfeeding support to help parents and children thrive.
- Analytics & Assessment (20%): You'll analyze medical histories and nutrition status to identify risk factors. You'll also collect data to help improve our programs.
- Community Engagement (10%): You'll represent Public Health at community meetings and ensure our services are culturally responsive and accessible to everyone.
- Administrative Support (10%): You'll ensure all work follows HIPAA and medical standards, assisting with grant reporting and client confidentiality.
- Coordination with Local Partners, Community, and Internal Team - 20%: While the Educator provides general support, the Lead Educator takes ownership of specific program "pillars." If you are in the Lead role, you will:
- Serve as a Program Coordinator: Act as the Local Agency Lead for specific areas like Breastfeeding, Retail Coordination, Outreach, or High-Risk Counseling.
- Analyze Complex Data: Move beyond data collection to perform deep-dive analysis for Nutrition Education plans.
- Mentorship: Act as a "go-to" resource for the team, helping to train new staff and ensure everyone is following CoWIC policies.
Community Health Educator:
- Minimum Education - High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred Education - Associate degree in Nutrition Science or related field, Medical Assistant Certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN, Diet Technician or Mental Health Assistant.
- Minimum Experience: Previous work experience with the public.
- Preferred Experience: WIC and/or public health experience and experience with low-income participants is preferred.
- Current CPR Certification or receipt of CPR Certification within six months of employment.
- Able to take and pass a basic math test related to anthropometric measurements.
- Required to take and pass the Lactation Management Certification test within one year of employment. LMS is required to provide and educate lactating mothers with medical-grade electric pumps.
- Required to take and pass the WIC Certification Program
- Level one within a month
- Level two within three months
- Level three within six months
- Minimum Education - High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred Education - Associate degree in Nutrition Science or related field, Medical Assistant Certificate, Certified Nursing Assistant, LPN, Diet Technician or Mental Health Assistant.
- Minimum Experience: Previous work experience with the public. Previous experience in the healthcare industry. At least 1 year of experience as a WIC Educator or any combination of education or experience which produces the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Preferred Experience: WIC and/or public health experience and experience with participants who are low-income.
- Current CPR Certification.
- Able to take and pass a basic math test related to anthropometric measurements.
- Up to date on required Lactation Management Certification.
- Lead Educators who provide breastfeeding coordination are encouraged to pursue additional breastfeeding certifications, which includes CLE, CLC, or IBCLC.
- Up to date on the complete WIC Certification Program.
